Niagara Falls Lodging on a Budget

December 16th, 2009

Each year, Niagara Falls will attract over 14 million visitors. Having a high amount of tourism for such a small geographic area will] amount to high costs. Before traveling to this world wonder, it would pay to explore some options when it comes to your budget.

During the summer, or high season, the falls becomes packed with people from all over. Attractions are rustling with the sound of tourists, and it may even take some time to sift through the crowds eagerly anticipating a close up view of the horseshoe falls.  My suggestion is to visit during mid to low season.  As the temperatures cool, so do prices. In other words, traveling early spring or later in the fall will allow you moderate to cooler weather, less people, and better pricing.

For moderate to low budget lodging suggestions, we need to be more careful. If summer time or high season is your forte, than be informed about where you stay.  See, the cheaper and most inexpensive Niagara Falls lodging would be found further down Lundy’s Lane. Although these inn’s or motels are generally half decent quality, it is in a slightly shanty part of town. Not to mention a couple miles from the Niagara Falls and entertainment districts.  However situated more in the local’s part of town you will find average pricing on restaurants to cheap souvenir shops.

The Ramada Plaza Fallsview is a good selection for a budget minded traveler wanting to settle in the heart of the district. Recently remodelled, it has been a landmark of the Niagara Falls skyline for years.  Hosting a mere 42 rooms, it is literally suspended on a pod on top of a tower. You’ll be sure to find a great falls view at an affordable price. The tower is also convenient walking distance to the falls,  the new fallsview casino, higher end restaurants, and attractions.

Bear in mind, most simple shops from Starbucks to Subways are priced 30-40 percent more in this area. While saving some cash on lodging in the skyline section of town, you may need to work harder to keep from blowing your budget savings on convenient food access which is not so budget friendly.

Bed & Breakfast is also an affordable way to enjoy the Niagara Falls area.  My top pick for a inexpensive B&B lodging would be Lion’s Head B&B. Lion’s Head is a cozy retreat located just down River Road past the Rainbow Bridge.  The hustle and bustle of downtown Niagara Falls is left for the next day as you overlook the beautiful Niagara gorge.  Although the setting is not with a fallsview, all the attractions and the falls themselves are only a 10 minute walk away.

The Breakfast menu seems to be frequently changing; however you’ll be sure to find tasteful delicacies including stuffed tomatoes with asiago cheese, and her signature poached pears with orange spice glaze and yogurt topping. Consider that this location does not have restaurants or dining close by other than what can be found at the Niagara Falls locations. So in order to dine and shop cheaply you may find yourself in need of a vehicle or the use of a taxi.

Having said all that, Lundy’s Lane will provide the cheapest hotel stays with all the trimmings of regular priced fast food, restaurants and shopping.  Although, it may not be in the most supreme part of town, it is not overly far from the falls, and offers hotels such as Days Inn, Econolodge, Comfort Inn, Travelodge and more.  Feel free to explore some of the main chains of hotels but be more careful with some motels which are in most cases privately owned and don’t offer the same quality and oversight of care that most hotel chains supply.
